Description
The Falling Walls Foundation invites science practitioners and organizations to showcase their innovative projects that actively engage the public in science and drive meaningful action on climate change. The focus areas include initiatives that actively engage the public in science with a particular emphasis on "Climate Action", showcasing projects that break down walls between science and society, promote co-learning, co-leadership, and co-creation, generate excitement and trust in science, and demonstrate innovation, forward-thinking, and entrepreneurial approaches. Falling Walls Engage invites nominations and applications for the Global Call 2026 in the category “Science Engagement,” with the pitches taking place in Berlin on 6 November as part of the Falling Walls Science Summit, which runs from 6–9 November. The event provides a platform for selected Science Engagement practitioners to gain international visibility and connect with peers who are transforming how audiences engage with science globally. Applicants who make it to the shortlist of 30 will benefit from unique networking opportunities, hands-on pitch training to refine presentation and storytelling skills, increased global visibility, and access to a worldwide community of practitioners. For the 15 finalists, additional advantages include a travel scholarship to Berlin, a ticket to the Summit, the chance to showcase their project on stage in front of an international audience and distinguished jury, and the opportunity to become the Science Breakthrough of the Year in Science Engagement. Finalists also gain access to in-depth co-learning and peer exchange, with their live pitch published in the Falling Walls media library. The ultimate Science Breakthrough of the Year will have the chance to present their initiative to a physical and virtual audience, including global leaders, award-winning professionals, media, and industry experts on 9 November on the main stage of the Summit. Eligible applicants must be individuals or organizations active in Science Engagement, focus on Climate Action, have projects that are already operational, be 18 years or older, submit applications in English, and ensure their projects have never been presented at Falling Walls Engage. Applications are evaluated based on measurable impact, innovation, participatory and inclusive approaches, and the overall quality and clarity of the submission. Projects are expected to demonstrate lasting and significant impact on people's lives and climate mitigation or adaptation, present inspiring and forward-thinking solutions to global challenges, and utilize formats that actively involve audiences in co-creating scientific knowledge.
