Description
The Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) has opened Letters of Intent for its 2027 Health Equity Research Grant to support innovative scientific efforts aimed at reducing disparities in ovarian and related gynecologic cancers. The grant focuses on identifying and addressing social, cultural, and economic factors contributing to health disparities in ovarian cancer; improving access to quality care, diagnostic tools, and treatment options for underserved communities; examining racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, or geographic disparities in disease progression and survival outcomes; and investigating genetic or molecular factors underlying ovarian cancer disparities along with potential therapeutic approaches. Despite advances in ovarian cancer research over the past two decades, progress in reducing health disparities has remained limited. OCRA is committed to ensuring that every patient receives the highest quality care and outcomes regardless of socioeconomic status, geographic location, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability status, or language. This funding initiative is designed to advance equity, inclusivity, and evidence-based strategies that address barriers faced by marginalized communities, particularly groups historically affected by unequal access to care due to gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, disability status, and language barriers. The grant provides support of up to 100,000 USD per year for two years, totaling 200,000 USD, awarded to the Principal Investigator’s institution. The funding period will begin on February 1, 2027. Award recipients will be required to submit activation deliverables as well as annual narrative and financial progress reports throughout the grant term. Projects funded under this program are expected to result in peer-reviewed publications, and all resulting presentations or publications must acknowledge OCRA’s support. Principal Investigators at all career stages are eligible to apply, provided they hold a PhD, ScD, MD, or other doctoral degree at the time of application. There are no citizenship restrictions, and international applicants are welcome. However, each individual may serve as Principal Investigator on only one Letter of Intent per grant cycle across all OCRA grant opportunities. A Principal Investigator may hold only one active OCRA grant at a time, and any currently active grant must conclude before a new one begins. Eligible institutions include accredited academic institutions and other nonprofit research entities such as research hospitals, research institutes, and recognized scientific research facilities. For-profit organizations, consulting companies, non-research organizations, and nonprofits that are not directly conducting the research are not eligible for funding. Applications will be evaluated based on scientific merit, originality, and the potential impact on reducing health disparities in ovarian and related gynecologic cancers. The selection committee will give strong consideration to projects that demonstrate creativity and innovation in addressing health equity challenges, generate meaningful data that advances the field, and position investigators for high-impact research, additional funding opportunities, and influential scientific publications. Proposed projects may represent entirely new initiatives or clearly defined aims within ongoing research programs, provided they align with the program’s equity-focused objectives.
