Title
Description
The Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance is inviting Letters of Intent for its 2027 Mentored Investigator Grant, designed to support early-career researchers dedicated to advancing ovarian cancer and related gynecologic cancer research. The focus areas of the grant include laboratory research, clinical research, epidemiologic research, and health services research, with projects required to focus on ovarian cancer or demonstrate clear and direct relevance to ovarian cancer, including related gynecologic cancers; projects in Cancer Control and Population Sciences, including risk and outcome studies, survivorship, and health services research, are also encouraged. The Mentored Investigator Grant provides financial support of up to $100,000 USD to the institution of the Principal Investigator, to be used over one or two years. The grant start date is March 1, 2027. Recipients are required to submit activation deliverables as well as annual narrative and financial progress reports throughout the duration of the grant. The designated mentor holds responsibility for ensuring that all required activation materials and reports are submitted on time. Any publications or presentations resulting from the funded work must acknowledge support from the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance. Eligible applicants must be clinical fellows or post-doctoral fellows with protected research time and must hold an MD, DO, and/or PhD at the time of submitting the Letter of Intent. PhD applicants must be within five years of receiving their terminal degree, meaning the degree must have been awarded in 2021 or later. MD/DO and MD/PhD applicants must be currently enrolled in a fellowship program. During the tenure of the grant, at least 80 percent of the applicant’s effort must be devoted to research activities, although limited non-research responsibilities such as coursework or clinical duties are permitted. There are no citizenship requirements, and international applicants are eligible to apply. Applicants may choose a project duration of either one or two years. The proposed project should align with and advance the overall scientific objectives of the mentor’s research group. Each applicant must select one mentor at the same institution, and only one mentor may be listed. Mentors may support only one applicant per year and must have significant independent cancer research funding from recognized sources such as the National Cancer Institute, the Department of Defense, or the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance. If invited to submit a full proposal, applicants will be required to provide at least one letter of recommendation from an individual qualified to mentor them. Funding is limited to accredited academic and non-profit research institutions, including universities, colleges, research hospitals, research institutes, and recognized scientific research facilities. For-profit entities, consulting companies, non-research organizations, and non-profits not directly conducting research are not eligible for funding. An individual may serve as Principal Investigator on only one Letter of Intent per grant cycle across all grant opportunities within the same cycle, though participation in additional applications in a non-PI role is permitted. A Principal Investigator may hold only one active grant from the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance at a time, and previous recipients of the Mentored Investigator Grant are not eligible to receive it again. The selection committee will evaluate applications based on the strength of the research environment, the quality of the proposed project, the trainee’s academic track record, and the likelihood that the applicant will pursue a sustained research career focused on ovarian cancer and related gynecologic cancers.
