Title
Description
The Global STEM Accelerators Program is currently accepting applications to help young women to become changemakers in their communities. The program integrates STEM learning, social impact, sustainability, global competence skills, social innovation, climate change, and the energy transition, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, cultural exchange, and the development of student-led solutions to real-world challenges. Designed as a fully online experience, the program runs from 30 May to 30 August 2026 and combines weekly live dialogue sessions with global peers and facilitators, along with self-paced interactive modules, games, and quizzes. Participants are expected to dedicate approximately three to four hours each week, and the flexible structure allows them to balance the program alongside their school commitments. Live sessions are offered at multiple times to accommodate different time zones, and participants may indicate their scheduling preferences, though full participation in the virtual curriculum is mandatory. Throughout the program, scholars collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds, deepen their understanding of sustainability and social innovation, and design a social impact project that they will present digitally to the University of Pennsylvania Center for Social Impact Strategy. Upon successful completion, participants earn the Advanced Certificate on Global Competence for Social Impact, jointly awarded by AFS and Penn CSIS, and become part of a global alumni network. Applicants must be born between 1 September 2008 and 31 May 2011 and should be able to participate fully in a program conducted entirely in English. They must have access to a suitable digital device with a webcam and microphone, along with a stable internet connection. The program seeks students with an interest in STEM, sustainability, and global competencies, as well as curiosity and openness to engaging with diverse cultures. Talented young women from all backgrounds, including underrepresented populations and those with high financial need, are encouraged to apply. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with the application deadline set for 15 April 2026 and admission decisions, including scholarship announcements for the 2026 Global STEM Accelerators, communicated via email on 8 May 2026. Applicants may submit a letter of recommendation from any teacher, tutor, mentor, or counselor who can speak to their academic and extracurricular achievements. The program is delivered by AFS, an organization known for its global education and intercultural learning initiatives.
