Title
Description
The Institute for Equality in Development Innovations offers a student-focused grant designed to support innovative ideas aimed at addressing abuse affecting children and young people. The grant supports ideas that seek to prevent child and youth abuse or provide direct support to survivors of abuse, with an emphasis on solutions that prioritize impact, inclusion, and survivor autonomy. The value of the grant is variable and can support individuals or teams with funding up to a maximum of 100,000 USD. Funding amounts vary depending on the scope of the project, requested support, and geographic considerations that influence resource costs. Smaller initial requests are encouraged, as projects may be expanded over time with continued funding available until the overall cap is reached. Multi-year projects are particularly welcomed, with successful long-term initiatives historically receiving substantial cumulative support. This funding opportunity is open to students of all ages, including those who are homeschooled, as well as learners enrolled in post-secondary, university, or college programs. Applicants in higher education are encouraged to indicate their existing funding levels to assist with equity-based allocation of resources. The application process is designed to be accessible and low-barrier. Applicants are first required to describe their idea by responding to seven core questions, with additional optional questions available for those who wish to elaborate further on their solution. Complete and successful applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, after which shortlisted applicants are contacted to participate in interviews. In some cases, follow-up interviews may be conducted with individual team members. At no stage in the process are applicants required to pay any fees. Applications are reviewed multiple times each year, with evaluation deadlines set for January 2nd, March 2nd, May 2nd, July 2nd, September 2nd, and November 2nd. Applicants are encouraged to complete as many optional questions as possible, as this can strengthen the application while aligning with the values of the Institute for Equality in Development Innovations. Recognizing that some questions may be difficult to interpret, applicants may also choose to explain their responses verbally during the interview stage. Rather than listing predefined eligible expenses, each proposed cost is assessed individually based on how directly it benefits victims or survivors and the degree to which survivors have autonomy in decisions regarding the use of funds. Individuals may submit up to two ideas at the same time, and projects that demonstrate impact may continue to receive funding in the future. Applicants typically receive an acknowledgment of submission within one week, and initial interviews are generally scheduled within two months. Interview questions are customized to each application and are not shared in advance, so all team members should be prepared to discuss the project in detail.
