Title
Description
The Africa CDC Industrial Fellowship Programme offers recent graduates an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in vaccine manufacturing while addressing workforce gaps across the continent. The programme focuses on building sustainable biomanufacturing talent within Africa, reducing reliance on external training programmes, addressing the shortage of industrial placements, strengthening technical and industrial competencies, and promoting expertise in current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) aligned with the Vaccine R&D and Manufacturing Competency Frameworks. Africa’s current reliance on training programmes outside the continent presents financial and logistical challenges, including high costs and visa constraints, while also limiting access to practical industry exposure. A significant gap remains in the availability of industrial placements necessary to equip graduates with relevant technical skills and hands-on experience in vaccine manufacturing. To address these challenges, Africa CDC, in collaboration with the African Vaccine Manufacturing Initiative (AVMI), launched a structured industrial fellowship programme in 2025. The initiative is designed to provide recent graduates with industry-relevant training, enabling them to develop practical skills and become readily employable within vaccine manufacturing institutions across Africa. The programme is funded by Africa CDC, with financial support covering return flight tickets, visa fees, documentation required for visa applications, and a minimal stipend to assist with daily living expenses during the fellowship period. The fellowship targets recent graduates, not more than three years post-completion, holding Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees in fields such as Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Biomanufacturing or vaccine manufacturing. Eligibility criteria require applicants to be citizens of an African Union Member State, possess a valid passport, demonstrate availability to participate in the programme in one of the designated countries, and have proficiency in either English or French. Africa CDC encourages applications from all qualified individuals across AU Member States, regardless of gender, race, disability, religion, caste, or marital status, with a strong emphasis on encouraging women to apply.
